What to expect

day 1: CUSCO - TREKKING TO SORAYPAMPA

The first day of our journey begins in Cusco, with pick up from our hotel around 4 am, then we will make a journey of several hours by car where we can enjoy spectacular scenery and snowy to reach Mollepata, where we will be at approximately 6 am and then have free time to enjoy breakfast and then continue to the starting point of our walk.

Around 9:00 a.m. we will start with our trekking to Soraypampa, on the first part of our way we will take some beautiful views of the valleys until we reach Soraypampa where we will enjoy our lunch and a short rest. At sunset we will ascend to visit the Humantay Lagoon and its blue waters that reflect the imposing glaciers, making it one of the most beautiful places in the Andes.

After our visit to the Humantay Lake we will return to our base in Soraypampa to enjoy our dinner and spend the night in the middle of the glacial valleys and the Salkantay mountain. It will be a magical night where we can clearly see the constellation stars that will leave you impressed with a unique experience.

day 2: SORAYPAMPA - ABRA SALKANTAY - CHAULLAY (22 KM HIKING ON THE TRAIL FOR 10 HOURS)

Around 9:00 a.m. we will start with our trekking to Soraypampa, on the first part of our way we will take some beautiful views of the valleys until we reach Soraypampa where we will enjoy our lunch and a short rest. At sunset we will ascend to visit the Humantay Lagoon and its blue waters that reflect the imposing glaciers, making it one of the most beautiful places in the Andes.

day 3: CHAULLAY - SANTA TERESA (11 KM WALKING, 5 HOURS)

The next day after breakfast we will start the walk. On the way we will see different plantations, among them quinoa and pomegranate. The guide will give us explanations about some flowers and their importance in the Andean culture. After 5 hours of walking, we will arrive at the beach of Sahuayacu, where we will have our lunch.

After lunch, we will continue by bus to Santa Teresa, where we will spend our third night. Here, during the afternoon, it will be possible to go to the thermal baths of Cocalmayo (optional, not included), complexes with 3 pools of different temperatures, and recover the muscles from the walk of the previous days. During the night we will have dinner

day 4: SANTA TERESA - HYDROELECTRIC - AGUAS CALIENTES ( ZIPLINE ) HIKE THROUGH THE INCA JUNGLE

The day starts with breakfast to face the walk to Hidroeléctrica with energy. We will continue to see the diversity of landscapes, going through altitudes between 1700 and 2000 m, where it is possible to appreciate the jungle landscape until our destination. On the other hand, there is the option of taking a zip line during the morning, which involves several meters of cable between the hills, as well as a suspension bridge, and includes the transfer to the hydroelectric plant for lunch.

After lunch, and once the group has gathered, we will walk along the train line for 3 hours to Aguas Calientes. Here, we will stay in our hostel until dinner time at a restaurant in town. After lunch, we will receive instructions from the guide for the next day, as well as a snack for the road between Aguas Calientes and Machu Picchu, before going to rest.

day 5: GUIDED TOUR OF MACHU PICCHU AND RETURN TO CUSCO

In the morning we wake up around 4:00 am where we will receive a small Box Lunch, to go to the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, in this walk we will take 1 hour and a half approximately (if you feel tired you can skip the walk and go by bus, tickets can be bought in Aguas Calientes town, or also buy in advance with us).

We will enter the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu and have a guided tour of the main sites for approximately 2 hours. At the end of the guided tour you will have free time to visit Machu Picchu individually or to climb the mountains (Machu Picchu Mountain or Wayna Picchu) if you have the reservation made.

After visiting at a certain time the group will descend to Aguas Calientes, where they will have lunch and walk the streets until the departure time of the train back to Ollantaytambo, where everyone will be picked up and transferred to Cusco. The trip will end at the San Francisco Square, Cusco

What to Bring to Salkantay Trek 5 Days

When preparing your luggage, remember that the rainy season in Machu Picchu is from December to March. The winter, between May and August, is especially cold, that's why we recommend you take:

  • Clothing to avoid cold
  • Sportswear (01 pair each).
  • Trekking shoes.
  • Hat or cap.
  • Sunglasses.
  • Rain jacket or poncho/according to the season.
  • Money extra.
  • Standard travel backpack.
  • Original passport or identity card.
